Model StrengthsThree engine choices and two body styles; stellar interior design; legendary quattro all-wheel-drive system.Model ChangesAll 2008 Audi A6 models now feature the erstwhile optional S-Line exterior appearance, which includes a trapezoidal grille with chrome accents, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler incorporated into the decklid, and unique body-color bumpers. Sirius satellite is now standard on all models. The packages have been slightly reworked, with the Cold Weather Package now receiving a heated steering wheel and the Premium and Technology Packages on the 3.2L including more equipment. Audi's lane assist system is now available on all models. Gone from the 3.2L sedans for 2008 are the optional adaptive cruise control and adaptive air suspension. An S-Line Interior Package is now available on all A6s. Model ValueThe 2008 Audi A6 offers a premium sedan experience at a lower price than many of its rivals. Power starts with the competent 3.2L V6 and progresses all the way up to a world-beating 5.2L V10. Front-wheel drive is standard on the base A6, while the rest of the lineup has Audi's rally-tested all-wheel-drive system. The A6 has one of the most luxuriously designed and well-crafted interiors extant, and the Avant wagon rounds out the picture.Model OverviewThe 2008 Audi A6 is a roomy, mid-size sedan that combines all-wheel drive with equal parts luxury and performance. With four doors, a spacious trunk, and seating for five, the A6 is attractive to a wide range of buyers, and the Avant station wagon and available quattro all-wheel drive only enhance the model's appeal.New for this year, all A6s carry S-Line exterior cues, including formerly optional bumper treatments, a chrome-trimmed grille, a rear spoiler integrated into the trunk lid, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, Audi continues to excel in their interior design. The base model is the 3.2L V6 sedan with front-wheel drive. It is very well equipped, with a seven-speed automatic transmission, an electronic stabilization program, dual exhaust, front and rear fog lights, power heated mirrors with memory, leather seat trim, power seats, side seat-mounted and curtain air bags, Sirius satellite radio, and the rest of the power features expected on a luxury sedan. Most buyers opt for the 3.2L sedan with quattro. Equipment is the same as the front-wheel-drive 3.2L (aside from the obvious difference in driving wheels), with the exception of a six-speed automatic transmission. The A6 Avant station wagon uses quattro as well, and also has a sunroof and roof rails standard. A potent 4.2L V8 engine with 350 horsepower is a heady choice for those with heavy right feet. The 4.2L also gets more luxury features, including a sunroof, xenon headlights with washers, auto-dimming exterior mirrors with memory, heated seats with memory, a power tilt/telescopic steering wheel, a universal garage door opener, and an electrochromic rearview mirror. A number of packages are offered to enhance the A6. The Cold Weather Package, Premium Package, and Convenience Package all add various equipment found on the 4.2. The Technology Package or the S-Line Interior Package can be ordered on all A6s. The S-Line Interior Package contains front sport seats, shift paddles mounted on the leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum door sills, a black headliner, and upgraded leather upholstery. In its second year of production, the S6 sedan is powered by a 5.2L V10 engine. With 435 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque the S6 is a driving tool that can put most sports cars to shame. A Technology Package adds a DVD navigation system, voice recognition, and an advanced parking system with a rearview camera. Available on all models in Audi's lane assist system, which is designed to alert the driver when an obstacle is present in the vehicle's blind spot. |
